Embroidery machine not reading a PES file? Check these first

A simple checklist for zipped downloads, hoop limits and incompatible files.

Unzip and identify the file

A ZIP archive is a container, not the design itself. Extract it and choose the actual PES or other supported stitch file. If you bought a design from a third party, ask the seller which size and version matches your machine.

Check size and stitch count

Brother lists an oversized design, an unrecognized saved hoop and too many stitches among reasons a file may not appear. Its troubleshooting article lists 30,000 stitches for 4 × 4 and 50,000 for 5 × 7 hoops, but you should confirm your exact model manual rather than treat those numbers as universal limits.

Check the transfer method

Use the transfer procedure in your machine manual and supported USB media. Do not assume a wireless transfer app supports every model or device. Update the machine only using its official procedure.

Do not force a file to fit

Renaming the extension does not convert stitch data. Editing or scaling needs embroidery software. If the correct supported file still fails, preserve the original and ask the design seller or Brother support with the model, dimensions, stitch count and error message.
